Nearly everyone starts keeping fit and exercising from a place of change.
You’ve reached a point you want to make a change for your health, to manage weight, to build muscle, to build strength, to compete in competition or because you want to look a certain way on holiday.
Unfortunately the mental health benefits of exercise often get neglected all to easily.
There’s even been a recent paper on the benefits of exercise for treating depression (Effect of exercise for depression: systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials Michael Noetel et al. BMJ. 2024.).
So, for me, as a coach my main underlying focus of working with clients is to help improve mental health for people struggling with depression, stress or anxiety.
